Smashapalooza - Summer 2006

Whoa! A summer tournament!

EVENTS:

• A, B, C, D flights for all events: MS, MD, WS, WD, MX.
• Consolation bracket for all events, unless the event is cancelled or made a round-robin due to insufficient entries.
• The tournament committee reserves the right to make any necessary changes in the draw and to modify the events if need be.
• Saturday 3 events maximum, Sunday 2 events maximum.
• No jump in flights (i.e. B and D = bad, B and C = fine.  Also B singles and D doubles = bad)
• Partners must play at the level of the better player (i.e. a B player and C player must play in the B flight and above).
• Players playing multiple doubles or mixed flights must play with the same partner.
• Both partners of a doubles team need to send in individual entry forms.
• If you sign up for two flights, and you make it to the semifinals of the higher flight, you will be automatically disqualified from the lower flight. This is to avoid sandbagging.
• If participants do not show for an event he/she will be charged for the event anyways.

SCORING:
      We will be using the 3 x 15 point scoring system (3 x 11 for women's singles).

SCHEDULE:
      Saturday - Singles: 9:00am; Mixed: approximately 2:00pm
      Sunday - D and B Doubles: 9:00am; C and A Doubles: approximately 12:00pm

      Gym doors will be opened at 8:30am on both Saturday and Sunday for warm-up.
      Court warm-ups will be limited to 3 minutes and a 5-minute default rule will be strictly enforced.
      There are NO gym time restrictions this tournament!!!

FEES:
      $15 for first event, $10 for each additional event. Late entries will be charged an additional $5. Group discount (10 or more people) is $10 first events.

• By Mail:  Only CHECKS payable to "UC Regents - Cal Badminton Club" or MONEY ORDERS (please do not send cash).
• Day Of:   Only CHECK and CASH will be accepted the day of the tournament.
• Tournament T-shirts are available for $10 at the tournament.

AWARDS:
      Trophies will be awarded to all 1^st place, 2^nd place, and Consolation winners of all flights.
      Cash prizes will be awarded to the winner(s) of A flights based on number of entries as follows:

SHUTTLES:
      There will be tournament-grade shuttlecocks available for purchase at the tournament.

CHECK-IN:
      The check-in desk will be located next to the RSF Special Events entrance.  Check-in will start as soon as the gym doors are opened.  You are expected to pay the total tournament entry fee for ALL EVENTS the first time you check in.  If you are playing on both days, you must pay for your doubles events on Saturday, and then check in again on Sunday.  Please be prepared to present photo I.D. if you are asked to do so when you check in.  Driver's licenses and student IDs will be accepted.

FOOD:
      Drinks and snacks will be sold at the Pro Shop in the RSF.  Outside food must be checked in and left at the Food Table.  The only place food products can be consumed within the facility is in the Pro Shop area or at the Food Table.  No exceptions.  Participants found with food elsewhere in the RSF will be warned and repeat offenders will be removed from the tournament without compensation.

PARKING:
      Metered street parking and underground parking lot ($1/hour) are available.  Street meters are checked on Saturday but not Sunday.  Please allow ample time for parking.  If you are late and cannot find parking, please drop a passenger off or park temporarily to explain the situation to badminton personnel at the front desk. Refer to the tournament parking page for more details.

ENTRY DEADLINE:
      All entries and fees must be received, e-mailed, or registered online by midnight of Saturday, August 5^th to be guaranteed in the draw.  Late entries will be charged the $5 late fee and will be accepted depending on availability and will otherwise be placed on a waitlist.  Those on the waitlist should arrive before all scheduled match times.
